Privacy Policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
In short:
- Flux runs on your Mac and talks to your log sources directly. Your logs, your connections and their tokens never reach us.
- An account is required to use Flux. It holds your email address and, if you sign in with Google or GitHub, the name and picture they provide.
- The only thing synced with your account is your preferences — appearance, keymap, grid settings. Nothing you read, search or save.
- No analytics, no advertising, no selling of data.
Who we are
Flux is a macOS application made by Emre Bozkurt ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Flux app, this website (flux.emreb.dev) and the services behind signing in and updating. Questions and requests about your data: open an issue or write to us through the Flux repository on GitHub.
What Flux does with your logs
Flux reads logs from sources you configure: a Graylog server, an Elasticsearch cluster through Kibana, or files and Docker containers on your Mac. Every request to a source is made from your Mac to that source. There is no server of ours in between, no copy of your logs is made anywhere but on your Mac, and nothing you search or read is sent to us or to anyone else. Flux only reads from your sources; it never writes to them.
The connection details you enter are kept on your Mac: a source's address in a file in Flux's settings folder (connections.json),
and its token or API key in your Mac's login keychain. They are never synced to your account, never included in an export, and never part of a
link you share. Projects, saved queries, query history and workspaces stay on your Mac as well.
Your account
Signing in is required to use Flux. You can sign in with a link or code sent to your email address, or with a Google or GitHub account.
- Email sign-in: we keep your email address, when the account was created and when it last signed in.
- Google or GitHub sign-in: the provider gives us your email address, your name and your profile picture, which we keep with the account. We request only the scopes needed to identify you (your basic profile and email); we never ask for access to your Google data, your GitHub repositories or your code.
- Profile picture: Flux shows the picture your sign-in provider gave, or — when you signed in by email — asks Gravatar for one using a hash of your email address. Gravatar does not receive your address itself.
Flux's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What syncs with your account
Your preferences follow you to every Mac you sign in on: appearance, keymap, console and grid settings, tree options and the like. These are stored with your account and sent a few seconds after you change one. Connections and their tokens, projects, saved queries, query history, workspaces and anything from your logs are never part of it. You can delete the synced copy at any time from Settings › Account; your Mac keeps its own settings.
Updates and this website
When Flux starts, and every hour while it runs, it asks our update server (updates.emreb.dev) which version is current, and downloads a new version when there is one. This request carries nothing about you; like any web request it exposes your IP address to our hosting provider while it is served. This website is static and sets no cookies.
Services we rely on
- Supabase — keeps accounts and synced preferences, and handles sign-in.
- Resend — delivers the sign-in email.
- Google and GitHub — when you choose to sign in with them.
- Cloudflare — serves this website and the update files.
- Gravatar — a profile picture by the hash of your email, when no provider gave one.
Each receives only what its part needs. We do not use analytics, tracking or advertising services, and we do not sell or share data for any such purpose.
Keeping and deleting data
Your account and synced preferences are kept until you ask us to delete the account, which removes both. Synced preferences can be deleted on their own from Settings › Account. Everything on your Mac is yours to delete: removing Flux's settings folder removes it all.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to how it is used. Write to us through the repository linked above and we will answer within a month. If you are in the EEA or the UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Flux is a tool for people who operate software and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly keep data about them.
Changes
When this policy changes, the new version is published here with its date. A change that affects what we keep about you is also announced in Flux's release notes.
